Depending on whether it's diesel, petrol or stop/start, batteries for Hyundai i30 start at around $199 delivered and fitted.
This is almost always caused by a parasitic drain on the battery, most common are glove box lights, boot lights, parking lights and in some cars, leaving it unlocked. Unlocked cars can prevent the vehicle going into sleep mode, thus also causing battery drain.
Idle stop start (ISS) enabled vehicles will use either:
1. EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery)
2. AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat)
Depending on your vehicle with ISS, it will and must be replaced with either of the above mentioned. This also is determined by its ISS system. Basic ISS systems use EFB whilst advanced ISS vehicles use AGM batteries.
IMPORTANT
1. Idle stop start vehicles can not use conventional flooded batteries!
2. An ISS vehicle with an enhanced flooded battery (EFB) must be replaced with an EFB or upgraded to an ISS AGM battery (overkill).
3. A vehicle which came with an ISS AGM battery must be replaced with an ISS AGM battery - it can not be downgraded to ISS EFB!
Knowing if your vehicle has idle stop start technology can be tricky. It may carry a badge such as these:
- i-Stop
- SkyActiv
- BlueMotion
- ISG
- eAssist
- Hybrid
- ECO
- ISS
You can also identify this by a button in the dash or centre console, vehicles manual or by reading the OEM battery label.
